Thundersport GB Round 1 Mallory Park
Friday Testing:
Perfect conditions for testing today, we had two aims for the test day, the
first being to test the new Bridgestone RC10 super sport tyre, which we will be running
all year. The test was successful! From the first few laps, I knew they were good, real
good. The second was to hit consistent low 55 second lap times, which came relatively
easy to our surprise, a combination of great tyres and a new Mallory park surface.
Saturday Qualifying:
A 20 minute session, so out I went just trying to get that one clean lap in
without any traffic, hard to do with 30 other bikes on track at the same time! My last
lap, lap 18 was my fastest with a time of 54.803 putting me on the second row in P6.
Saturday Super Pole Race:
This is an 18 lap race that decides my grid positions for my two races on
Sunday. So starting from P6 I made an awful start 11th position round the first turn,
I started making my way back up the field up to 10th then 9th and then on the last 3
laps making up another two positions and finally finishing the race in P7!! (Not
so happy with that!) So starting from P7 for the two races on Sunday.
Sunday Race 1:
From P7 awful start again!!!! 10th through the first turn. 14 lap race this
time, made my way back up to 7th place by lap 10. The last 4 laps of the race were
very exciting some very close racing. With me making up a further 3 places in the late
stage of the race with some fantastic over taking. Finished in P4 just off the podium!
(A bit happier with that one)
Sunday Race 2:
So here we go again from P7. Finally got a good start 5th place through the
first turn. A rider in front of me went down early on in the race so that put me up to
4th position, my eyes were firmly set on the riders in front of me, I wanted a podium
and I wanted it bad. On lap eleven I got a great run out of Gerrards bend and passed
Mcneil on the brakes into Edwina's, up to third place. My times were fast and rapidly
catching second place. On the last lap I was right behind him so I went on the attack.
I tried round the outside, round Gerrards and out braking him into Edwina's. It didn't
work; I had one more chance, the hairpin! I rammed it down his inside at the hairpin
and passed him but I over shot it and he got me back on the way out. He beat me to the
line by 0.087. A great race and I got my podium!!
A big thank you of course to my sponsors the greatest people on earth
smallboy track bikes for all their help couldn't do it with out you guys!!! And also
a big thank you to hammer and tongs for all their help
